Have you ever worked in an oppressive environment? I have, and it’s no fun. As a concessionaire at a beachfront state park there was no love lost from park management towards me. In this workplace, fear of what might happen if you broke one of their petty rules was the guiding light. It was discouragement all the way and the cards were stacked against me and my team. I was miserable. To make matters worse, our tour boat guest lunches came to a screeching halt because of a broken dock. Under this management it was going to take at least a year to fix, causing many thousands of dollars in lost revenue. Could it get any worse? It sure seemed like it, when a water spout demolished my 180-person event tent! I’d had enough. I quit half-way through my 5-year contract. You can’t put a dollar sign on peace. You may be working in one of these environments now. You need the money but you’re afraid to cut the umbilical cord. “You do as you please and exploit all your workers.” —Isaiah 58:3 You may feel helpless because you need to feed your family and cannot quit. Like the broken dock, there may be no quick fix. But have faith that God knows your situation. If you let Him take the wheel, while you pray with conviction for a solution, He will in His divine timing lead you to a better place. He promises that. |
