I overslept!
Today’s impossible schedule and all the unfinished work from yesterday loomed ahead, tempting me to launch straight into work mode.
Which would mean skipping my prayer and devotional time.
Which would also mean putting my faith in God on the back burner.
I know you know the feeling:
So much to do and so little time to get it all done.
You’re not at peace, you’re at war with the clock.
Sitting there with my Bible in hand, my mind wandered to my workout at 7 AM, sales meeting at ten, staff meetings on the hour till 3, and then a 4 PM on-site visit for a client.
Each meeting would also require prep time. My mind was a squirming mass of deadline pressure.
One of today’s readings, David’s Psalm 51 verse 12, hit me hard:
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Taking a deep, calming breath, I completed my meditations and prayers—keeping faith that God will grant me a willing spirit to sustain me, even when my workload is overwhelming.
Here’s what I’ve learned. . . .
Instead of pushing to make everything happen with our own human efforts, if we let go and trust Him, God never gives us any more than we can handle each day.
