During World War II my dad worked for Curtiss-Wright Corporation, building planes to help keep our country free. Its founder grew up in Hammondsport, NY, only a few miles from my dad’s birthplace in Penn Yan on Keuka Lake.
It’s a small world, as they say, since the aviation pioneer Glenn Curtiss built Opa-Locka—and that’s where my own company is now located.
This cash-strapped city is in decay and was on the verge of financial collapse. Now the state of Florida controls their finances.
Many of the Arabian-inspired buildings are falling apart. The city hall is boarded up and in a state of advanced disrepair.
Two days ago, several city leaders and friends gathered on the third floor of the city’s admin building and stared down the Devil—who many believe is the only occupant of the crumbling city hall built by the atheist aviator Glenn Curtiss.
These believers prayed their hearts out, asking Jesus to help their decaying city.

Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.
Lord, hear my voice;
Let your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy.
They were not ashamed to pray and sing in loud voices and with passion and fervor. They knew, and so does God, that prayers from the rooftops work.
