| Rewind for a moment to the late 1970s. It was Sunday morning in Dallas, Texas and Jean Ziglar asked her husband, “Should I write a new check?” Zig Ziglar was a successful motivational speaker who brought many to the Lord. Sugar Girl, as Zig used to call his wife, had erroneously written their 10% church tithe for more than 10% of their weekly income. What do you think Zig said? Things are tight. Go ahead and write a new one. Or maybe: We’ll double down next week. Or perhaps it was this: It seems God doesn’t want us to give this week, otherwise He would have helped you write the correct amount. Instead, Zig said, “No, you can’t out-give God!” “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” — Luke 6:38 But “give and you shall receive” is not why the Ziglars gave more than their weekly tithe. They did it out of the goodness of their hearts. They felt blessed, and they used their blessings to bless others. Still, you know the feeling. You’re barraged with requests to give your treasure, your time, and your talent. But it seems there’s only so much to go around. Perhaps there’s one area in your life where you could share even just 1% more. Next time you’re asked, think of the Ziglars, who were blessed beyond measure. |
