Setbacks, Setups, and Comebacks

Leading Caterers of America . . . #1 on Yahoo for a time during the mid-’90s with its niche key words.

I created this web site to connect clients to caterers. Sadly, early success was followed by failure. I didn’t have the time or the technical expertise to keep it relevant.  Competitors outran me, and now sites such as The Knot and Wedding Wire dominate.

Next, I partnered with another site, created by another caterer. The challenge with this site was that venues needed to keep their own info current.

That didn’t work, so I jumped ship.

I then built another site: South Florida Event Venues. This still works quite well, but it’s not ideal.

Never giving up, I’m preparing to launch my state-of-the-art site, Bill Hansen Miami Venues.

Built on lessons learned from my earlier failures, it’s due to launch in May.

Life is full of setbacks, even for the early Christians.

After Jesus ascended, it was up to the Apostles to spread the Good News. One way they did this was by performing miracles.

  Book of Acts, 5:12-16.

12The apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people. And all the believers used to meet together in Solomon’s Colonnade. 13No one else dared join them, even though they were highly regarded by the people. 14Nevertheless, more and more men and women believed in the LORD and were added to their number. 15As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. 16Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

These men encountered myriad setbacks. The teachings they were spreading were totally contradictory to the dog-eat-dog culture of that day.

Yet, nothing stands in the way of the Lord, as revealed in the the final book of the New Testament, The Book of Revelation.

While exiled on the island of Patmos, Jesus appeared to the last surviving disciple, John, who documented his visions. These still live with us today.

Less than 300 years later, Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire.

What setbacks have you known?

Are suffering through a setback right now?

Are you fearing a specific setback in the future?

Whenever you’re about ready to give up, remember the Disciples—and how they fought valiantly to spread the Good News.

It worked for them, and it will for you, too.

Why?

Because they were working in the Lord’s Will, not their own.

Next time you’re knee-deep in a setback, ask the Lord for His help. If He could spread Christianity from one, to twelve, and eventually to millions, He can certainly help you do what you’re being called to do.
