The party was over. It was time to be paid. “Follow me, Beall.” (She couldn’t say Bill.) Up the winding staircase of her multi-million-dollar home in Golden Beach. Where was she taking me? Finally, at the end of a long, imposing climb, she turned to me and said, “Please step into my office, Beall.” Behind the proverbial picture on the wall was . . . you guessed it! Click, click, click, click. Voila, the door of the safe sprung open. Stacks and stacks of $100 bills wrapped neatly in paper sleeves. Her bill with me was somewhere around $10,000 plus a few hundred more. She handed me $12,000. “Here’s a little extra. You and your team did a good job.” Not once did she smile! Her lips were tense and wrinkled, like she’d been weaned on a pickle. |
Have you ever encountered someone with all the money in the world, but they were still unhappy? No peace. Safe combinations even on their heart. David, Psalm 16: 8-11 I keep my eyes always on the LORD. With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore, my heart is glad, and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest secure, because you will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay. You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. It almost seems crazy to have to say it. But sometimes we still forget. . . . Joy comes from God’s presence within us, and how much we allow it to be there. No stack of C-notes could ever be high enough to replace that treasure. Tomorrow is Easter, when thousands of years of Biblical prophecy are fulfilled. Regardless of the amount of $$$ in your life, you can be joyful because of what Jesus did for us. PRAISE THE LORD! |
