| The Big Five-Oh. Fifty years. That’s how long I’ve been managing and leading teams of people. Longer, actually. In 1968, at the tender age of 22, I ran a hotel for navy officers in Monterey, California, managing 148 rooms. My team of 60 enlisted men cooked and served 21 meals per week. The following year I took over managing the Officers’ Club, juggling 100+ employees and $1M+ in sales—while still overseeing the rooms and meals. I worried. I couldn’t sleep. At times I worked 100+ hours per week in my mania to keep everything as close to perfect as possible. Back then I had little, if any, God in my life. But He was there for me—even if I wasn’t there for Him like I should have been. Fast forward to 2019. I’m a veteran of the catering biz. I carry scars too numerous to count, some horrific memories, and some amazing experiences, such as catering for President and Mrs. Reagan and Pope John Paul II. So, what does the future hold for me? That’s in God’s hands! Like dew on the grass as the morning sunlight beams down, the more I open myself to Him, the faster my worries and fears evaporate. How about you? He delivered me from all my fears.” Let these words soak in deeply enough and you’ll hold the key to a successful life. Guess what?
